Symphonic Adventures 2012

Mozart and the Story of Orchestral Music

Mozart

Starring

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Since the founding of the New West Symphony in 1995, the Symphony has introduced third, fourth and fifth grade students to the joys of live symphonic music through our interactive Symphonic Adventures concerts.

This season, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart joins the orchestra on stage to take the students on a journey through the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods of music.  Music of the masters such as Bach and Beethoven are introduced along with modern music that the children and their teachers will find familiar.

The Symphony provides music curriculum to teachers so that students are anticipating the concert.  Students also have the opportunity to participate at the concerts in a number of ways: by clapping rhythms, identifying the different period of music and more! Each teacher receives curriculum activities aligned with the California State Department of Education Visual and Performing Arts music content standards to share with his/her students.

These concerts are designed to meet the following California Music Standards:
•  Identify visually and aurally the four families of orchestral instruments.
•  Identify melody, rhythm, harmony, and timbre in selected pieces of music when
    presented aurally.
