Sonia Goulart, piano
Regarded as one of Brazil’s greatest current artists, Sônia Goulart has been awarded more than thirty national and international prizes, including the 1st TV Award in Frankfurt, Germany, the Rencontres Musicales Internationales Award in Brussels, Belgium, and the International Ferrucio Busoni Contest Prize in Bolzano, Italy.
Born in Salvador, State of Bahia, she began her studies in Rio de Janeiro, with Arlete Thedim Costa, and subsequently attended the National School of Music under the guidance of Elzira Amabile, where she graduated with a Gold Medal.
Living in Europe for over eight years, Ms. Goulart studied with masters Bruno Seidhofer, Karl Engel and Stefan Askenase, having also taken courses with Carlo Zecchi at the Salzburg Mozarteum, where she was awarded the Summer Course Best Pianist Prize, and with Jakob Sak at Weimar Franz-Liszt Hochschule, in addition to high performance revisions with Alicia de larrocha and Mordehay Simoni.
Performing with extraordinary success in a number of cities of several European countries, such as Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, England, Italy and Switzerland, as well as in the America, Sônia Goulart was included in the Concert Saison of German entrepeneur Franz Günther Buscher, having formed a solid international career, always with standing-room-only attendance at the houses she performs. InWeimar, news-paper Thuringer Landeszeitung printed: “The palace hall was completely full; many could get no tickets.”
Appearing as soloist with major European orchestras, Ms. Goulart performed under famous conductors, such as Alexander Rumpf, Bernard Conz, Carlo Bagnoli, Felix Prohaska, Hubert Reichert, Jorge Sarmientos, Michael Spierman, Niclas Aeschbacher, Simon Blech, Stephan Gunzenhouser, Eleazar de Carvalho, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Marcelo Lehninger, among others.
A Doctor in Music by German Staatlich Hochschule für Musik und Theatre Hannover, she also exercises the teaching profession, having been a professor at Germany Musikschule der stadt Marl for three years, and is currently Head Professor at the School of Music, Rio de Janeiro Federal University. In Brazil she develops intense activities both as recitalist and chamber music player, and is frequently invited to appear as soloist with the country’s major orchestras. Sônia Goulart has albums recorded in Germany, France and Brazil, and she has appeared on the cover of several music magazines in Europe.
Every year she returns to Europe for tours of recitals and concerts with orchestra, that always achieve considerable success with both the public and specialized critics, being praised and compared to names such as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Alicia de Larrocha and Martha Argerich. In these occasions Sônia Goulart also makes recording with several radio stations, among which, in Switzerland: Radio Suisse Romande (Lausanne); in Italy: Radio Televisione Italiana (Bolzano); in France: Radiodiffusion Télévision Française (Paris); in Belgium: Radiodiffusion Télévision Belge (Brussels); and in Germany: Sender Freies (Berlin), Hessischer Rundfunk (Frankfurt), Norddeutscher Rundfunk (Hamburg and Hannover), Bayerischer Rundfunk (Munich) and Südwestrundfunk (Stuttgart), by which she is invited from time to time to make recordings.
